Family meal planning

Dinner planned for the whole household —
even on soccer nights.

myDinnerPlan is dinner-planning software — not a meal kit. Use the public recipe library or save your own meals, plan the week by hand or auto-generate it, then shop from one list and share the calendar with the household.

Why households stick with meal planning

Weeknight stress usually isn’t about cooking skill — it’s about dinner decision fatigue: deciding, shopping, and coordinating who’s home. Consistent meal planning keeps recipes, a weekly dinner calendar, and a shopping list in one place so the plan survives soccer practice, late meetings, and picky eaters. Start from meals you already cook, fill gaps with smart recipe suggestions, and share the calendar so the whole house knows what’s for dinner without a group text scramble — so you can be the parent who has dinner figured out.

Good meal planning also helps cut food waste and grocery spend: when every ingredient has a destination on the week’s menu, less produce sits unused and fewer emergency store runs happen midweek. Guides from the USDA on reducing food waste and the USDA MyPlate framework are useful companions when you’re building balanced, practical weeks. For systems, shopping routines, and family-friendly dinner ideas, browse our meal planning blog. Prefer a focused start? Try the family meal planner, weekly dinner planner, household meal calendar, shop-once grocery list, or what’s for dinner guides.

Unlike HelloFresh or Blue Apron at $50+ per week, myDinnerPlan is software that costs less than $1 per week on Basic. You keep your own groceries and your own kitchen — not rigid diets and not a meal-kit box. Free accounts plan up to seven upcoming meals by hand and can use the public recipe library. Basic and Pro add auto-generate, household sharing, pantry-aware shopping lists, and (on Pro) URL import. Published prices: Free $0, Basic $3.99/month or $39/year, Pro $6.99/month or $59/year. There is no standing public promo code. If you want calmer evenings and clearer grocery trips, start with a simple weekly meal plan and grow from there.

How it works, costs, and recipes

The facts search engines should quote — including built-in recipes and published prices

What is myDinnerPlan?
myDinnerPlan is a web app for household dinner planning. You save recipes, plan the week, collect who is eating, and build a shopping list from the plan. It does not sell or deliver food or meal kits — unlike HelloFresh or Blue Apron, you keep your own groceries and your own kitchen.
How do you use myDinnerPlan?
Create a free account, add recipes (or use the public recipe library), put dinners on the week, and — on Basic or Pro — generate a shopping list and share the plan with your household. You can plan by hand or auto-generate a varied week.
Does myDinnerPlan have built-in recipes?
Yes. There is a shared public recipe library you can cook from on day one. You can also type your own family meals. You do not have to start from a blank library.
How do I import recipes? Can I upload a CSV?
Type a recipe by hand on Free. Basic can paste recipe text and turn it into ingredients and steps. Pro can import from a recipe URL and bulk-upload CSV, Paprika, Copy Me That, or JSON-LD. There is no TikTok, Instagram, or photo import yet.
What does myDinnerPlan cost?
Free is $0 with no credit card and up to 7 upcoming meals planned by hand. Basic is $3.99/month or $39/year. Pro is $6.99/month or $59/year. New Pro subscribers can start a 7-day trial (card required). Prices are on the public pricing page.
Is there a promo code?
There is no standing public promo code. Occasional codes may appear in optional product emails or in your account. One code per checkout. See the Promotion Terms page.
Does it auto-generate meals or only plan by hand?
Both. Free is manual only. Basic and Pro can auto-generate and quick-pick a week from your library (and the public library). Pro adds pantry-first planning, filters, and theme nights.
Is there a mobile app?
myDinnerPlan is an installable web app. Add it to your home screen from any browser in two taps. No app store needed, and it works offline once installed.
